FAQs
Materials such as wool, fleece and cotton are ideal for dog sweaters as they provide warmth while being breathable. Wool is particularly good at keeping you warm, while fleece is light and comfortable. Cotton is suitable for dogs with sensitive skin as it is soft and hypoallergenic. Merino wool is odor-resistant, very soft and pleasant on the skin.
Sweaters are particularly useful for small dog breeds such as dachshunds, Yorkshire terriers and chihuahuas, which often do not have a thick undercoat and get cold quickly. Dog sweaters also offer additional protection from the cold for sensitive breeds such as the Italian greyhound or the miniature pinscher, which have a low fat reserve.
Small dogs and dogs without an undercoat are particularly sensitive to cold, especially in the winter months. Because they lack the protective fur that acts as natural insulation in other dogs, they lose body heat more quickly and therefore get cold more easily. This can cause them to feel unwell or even become ill.
These dogs are particularly at risk in cold, damp weather, as wetness makes them even more susceptible to cooling. In such situations, dog sweaters are particularly useful, as they provide an additional layer of warmth that protects the dog from the cold and wet and keeps it comfortably warm.
When measuring, make sure that your dog is standing upright to get the most accurate measurement result possible.
1. Back length: Use a tape measure to measure the length of the back between the base of the neck and the base of the tail. You can use the lower edge of the collar as a guide.
2. Neck circumference: Measure the neck circumference at the widest point. Do not measure too tightly as there is still a little room
3. Chest circumference: To measure your chest circumference, also measure the widest part of your chest.
